In May, 2003, EverEdgeIP began commercial development of a revolutionary packaging technology for viscous foods such as yogurts, jellies, condiments and sauces. The challenge was simple: to update the fundamentally old technology currently used to package dairy and other viscous food products by focusing on modern consumers' increasing demands for convenience and food that can be eaten “on–the–go”. The result was CrushPak®.
EverEdgeIP undertook extensive market research to establish whether our basic concept for an accordion package would meet the needs of consumers. What we found gave us the confidence to develop our concept into a series of prototype products that showed tremendous potential and were enthusiastically embraced by industry professionals.
Today, CrushPak enables consumers to eat foods like yogurt, pudding and apple sauce with or without a spoon. It can also be used as portion control unit or dispenser for condiments, sauces, cooking ingredients and pastes. First licensed by Fonterra, the world’s largest dairy exporter, CrushPak provided the impetus for a new brand of yogurt, “Splatz!” focused on youth ages 6 – 12, Splatz has been wildly successful and has led Fonterra to add more CrushPak products to its line, including its "Calciyum" range of dairy desserts – Fonterra's flagship consumer brand. Since its launch, Calciyum products in the CrushPak format have become the fastest growing dairy product in the New Zealand market.
